Extreme Couponing Canada: Free bread and cheap bananas today! – July 22nd

extreme couponing canada

Wasn’t planning on doing a shopping trip today but I needed to pick up some hot dog buns for the weekend and they were on sale at Superstore, so I thought I’d make a quick stop. Then on the way home I was sorting through my coupon folder and remembered I had coupons from the Entertainment Book for McGavin’s Bread Basket and I had never been there before so I figured I would check it out since it was relatively close by. That’s when today’s trip turned into Extreme Couponing Canada for bread!

Superstore breakdown:

D’italiano sausage buns $2 – $0.75 = $1.25

D’italiano hamburger buns $2 – $0.75 = $1.25

2 x ripe bananas $0.57/lb – 50% off sticker = $1.85 for 16 bananas! Banana bread this weekend! They’re not even overly ripe yet, so I’ll have to give it a couple days.

Subtotal: $7.70

Coupons used: $1.50 + $1.85 off for 50% sticker

Total paid: $4.35

Then off to McGavin’s:

2 x Dempster’s loaf’s $1.39 – 2 free shortdated loaves from entertainment book = FREE

2 x Dempster’s smart loaf’s $1.39 – 2 free shortdated loaves from entertainment book = FREE

1 x Dempster’s ovenfresh baguette $1.39- with coupon below = FREE

1 x Dempster’s raisin bread $3.49 – $5 coupon on any purchase from entertainment book = FREE

Subtotal: $10.44

Coupons used: $10.44

Total paid: $0

If you’ve ever been to a McGavin’s store, I think I need not say that I was extremely impressed!! The prices are very fair, with cheaper prices when you buy in bulk, and they have just about every brand of bread there. McGavin’s does a lot of promotions on their facebook fanpage, in store and through the Entertainment book so it’s easy to score a great deal. Their shortdated bread is also not very shortdated at all! The loaves of dempster’s and smart bread I picked up are best before July 26th while today is only July 22nd. Other stores like Real Canadian Superstore do not mark down their bread until the day before or day of!

The shortdated bread was $1.39 each or 10 for $12 which is a great deal in itself if you have a chest freezer. They had so much variety on the shortdated shelves as well. There was hamburger buns, hot dog buns, pitas, tortillas, english muffins, bagels, sourdough bread, baguettes…you get the idea.  Bread freezes really well, so I always buy a lot of loaves at once since we go through a lot of bread in my household.

The cashier had no problem letting me use more than 1 coupon, just had to do separate transactions but she was extremely efficient and must have sensed how impressed I was with the store because she took the time to explain all the different promotions they offer. I’m going to be buying all my bread there from now on seeing as how it’s cheaper than getting it from a grocery store. I was also pretty upset that I just bought d’italiano buns from Superstore when I could have gotten free buns from McGavin’s. Oh well, now I know!

  1. I live a hop, skip & a jump from the one in Langley…LOVE IT! Had no idea that bread was so cheap there, or else we would have been doing all our bread trips there for years. My kids go through alot of bread. We love buying the 10 for $12 etc.

There are always such great deals in the 10 for $12! I love that it’s all their shortdated items which sometimes include baguettes, bagels and english muffins. I think a deep freezer is definitely a must to stock up though. Lucky that you live so close! You can go scope out the discount section daily for new items!

  2. How do I unsubscribe?
